A Duck on a Beach holds an Audience in Thrall --

By Alex Deleon

Trailer from new Kiarostami film "24 FRAMES"

-- three rectangular pillars filling the screen on a sandy beach location. Quietude. In the distance there is occasional boating activity of some kind, but too far away to make out the details. In the foreground a mallard duck waddles on and off screen several times. Upon his last appearance the duck waddles up to a barely visible cyclone wire fence as from the distance another duck -- probably a female -- waddles up to the fence and flaps her weeks in what seems like joyful recognition of her "partner" on Our side of the fence -- one longs to see more -- but this is only one of 24 frames that will ultimately comprise the whole.

Koarostami with shades, Persian to English interpreter Marissa with free flowing hair, and session moderator Geoff Andrews of the British Film Institute, with mike in hand -- And a jolly good time was had by all!
