Cinema my love – Lumière brothers in focus...an amazing meeting with Thierry Fremaux

“Cinema taught me history, cinema taught me geography, cinema taught me public relations, and finally, cinema taught me love” – this is how Thierry Fremaux, director of the biggest film festival in the whole world, spoke about his greatest passion in life, during today’s meeting in Kino Światowid.

This extremely busy man found some time to visit Katowice and share his experience. He spoke about his work connected with the festival (picking the jury, selecting the movies), and shared his opinion on the condition of modern cinema and its Americanization. Cinema, according to Fremaux, is most importantly a vision of the world that changes us – its recipients. This is why we cannot close our sensitivity to its various types. Film, no matter where it is made, in itself constitutes a universal language which reaches the deepest parts of our souls. However, we need to give it a chance to do it, which is why the reception of this form of art should be taught at schools just as it happens in France. We would like to thank Thierry Fremaux once again for visiting our festival, since his participation was an exciting and instructive experience for the participants of today’s meeting.
