Michael Winterbottom retrospective at Odessa International Film Festival 2013
Today, at the presentation of the 4th Odessa International Film Festival at Cannes Film Festival OIFF president Victoria Tigipko shared the latest news - Michael Winterbottom, one of the leading British filmmakers, will visit Odessa to present his own retrospective and the documentary 'Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer' will be shown in the OIFF-2013 non-competitive program.
Thus, one of the most interesting, provocative and prominent directors of Great Britain, winner of the highest prize awarded at the Berlin IFF and BAFTA award, 3-time Palm d’Or nominee and Cannes FF Jury member in 1998, Michael Winterbottom ('24 Hour Party People', '9 Songs', 'The Road to Guantanamo') will join the ranks of the OIFF-2013 honored guests. The idea to invite Winterbottom to Odessa came to the OIFF team at the Berlinale this year, where he had brought his new feature film 'The Look of Love' (2013) - biopic about the porn mogul and founder of the British 'adult entertainment' industry Paul Raymond. As the part of the 4th Odessa International Film Festival the director's retrospective will also take place, the program of the retrospective will be announced at the OIFF press conference in June.
Furthermore, the FESTIVAL OF FESTIVALS section of OIFF-2013 non-competitive program has been replenished with this year’s Sundance documentary riot - a movie of British/Russian production about Russian contemporary dissidents ‘Pussy Riot’. Collaboration of British producer, Academy Award nominee for his film 'Hell and Back Again'(2012), Mike Lerner and Russian director Maxim Pozdorovkin - 'Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer' depicts the real story of three young women, who had been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for a satirical performance in a Moscow cathedral. The premiere of the film about the world-renowned radical feminist Russian punk-rockers 'Pussy Riot' was held in January at the Sundance International Film Festival, where the film was presented in the World Documentary competition and won Special Jury Prize.
Other OIFF-2013 recent news will be shared at the press conference, which will take place on June 10 in Odessa and on July 11 in Kiev. The Festival will be held from July 12 – 20, 2013.
