San Sebastian Festival offers an accessible screening in the Basque language

On Friday, September 28th, at 12h00 at the Principe Cinemas, the film Camera Obscura will be screened with audio description and subtitling for the hearing impaired in Basque. This is the first time that a showing accessible for people with sensory activity will be available in the Basque language.  

This screening joins the others previously announced, accessible by means of subtitling and audio description for the hearing impaired. The Festival therefore continues its efforts of recent years to ensure that all people have access to cinema in equal conditions.

The San Sebastian Festival remains committed to accessibility to all audiovisual media for people with sensory disability, as it has been since 2008, in collaboration with the Royal Board on Disability through the Centro Español de Subtitulado y Audiodescripción (Spanish Subtitling and Audio Description Centre, CESyA), an endeavour supported by Arcelor Mittal, Euskaltel, Fundación Adecco, APTES and RedMelisa.

Directed by Maru Solores, Camera Obscura is presented in Panorama, the Zinemira Basque cinema showcase, and stars Jacqueline Duarte, Leyre Berrocal, Víctor Clavijo, Josean Bentoetxea and Pello Madariaga. Ane, 13, has lost her sight. While her parents are busy trying to have her operated on time and again, she has entered puberty and is starting to ask herself questions... While on holiday at the family´s seaside home, her Uncle Antonio blows in like a breath of fresh air. It´s the summer of her first love... and her first period. Antonio introduces Ane to photography. Camera in hand, Ane starts to capture everyday scenes, until she falls upon things no-one wants to see or be seen...
