From “Rushmore” director, Wes Anderson, comes a very amusing, off-beat, eccentric Norman Rockwellesque film about two misfit pre-tweens who just want to escape conformity and be together. Help Walt (Bill Murray), Scout Master Ward (Ed Norton), Police Captain Sharp (Bruce Willis), Laura (Frances McDormand), and Troop 55, find Sam “Shakusky” (played by Jared Gilman), and his girlfriend, Suzy (Kara Hayward), on the fictional New England island of New Penzance, or in reality, the Rhode Island woods and coastline, during the summer of 1965. Shakusky, a troubled orphan, recently resigned from being a Khaki Scout in Troop 55, and has escaped through a hole in his tent, and set off downstream to meet his penpal, Suzy, whom he met at a church pageant a year earlier, and who recently ran away from home. Both labelled as “emotionally disturbed,” the two find solace with one another, and get to know each other better, while living off the land. Will they be found? How will their parents react? What will social services do to Shakusky?
