Screen Naija Open Air Cinema Festival launching in Nigeria

Screen Naija Open Air Cinema Festival is now a member of the Projection Foundation (http://projectionfoundation.org.)

The Projection Foundation addresses technological inequity by providing communities with: (1) the tools and training necessary to produce digital media, and (2) the resources to exchange their stories through local cinema screenings, regional open air film festivals, and a representation within global social media networks.
What Do We Do?
The Projection Foundation combines village-based media production & open air film festivals to link ‘offline’ communities to regional and global information networks.
Our first product is an online community for projectionists around the world. Through the Projection Foundation community, projectionists can share the skills of their trade and work together to span the digital divide that still exists in many parts of the world.
The Projection Foundation’s most visible product will be our local community and regional film festivals. We will work with regional and national governments to take inflatable cinema systems on tour of participating communities. These screenings will feature selected digital shorts produced by storytellers in each participating workshop.
What Immediate Results Do We Hope to Achieve?
We will provide ‘offline’ communities with the tools they need to communicate with the global community. By 2015, we will equip a regional network of partner communities within participating ASEAN member nations with basic filmmaking equipment and a 25′ inflatable outdoor cinema system. In exchange, each partner community will be responsible for organizing one digital media workshop per year, and one local community screening per month. A total of 10 annual workshops, and 120 annual screenings will result.
