Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 goes to one of Sweden’s finest actresses of our time – Harriet Andersson
The 21st Stockholm International Film Festival presents the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 to actress Harriet Andersson. She will receive her award at a ceremony at the Skandia Theatre and present an outdoor screening of Summer With Monika at Norrmalmstorg.
Motivation: With a career spanning over 60 years, Harriet Andersson has shown herself in possession of a face, even in perfect stillness, able to inspire the most profound gratitude for the medium of film. Her wide-ranging portrayals of women have helped expand our concept of onscreen femininity. No one could ever forget the feral Monika, Agnes in her death throws, or the silent cruelty of Gloria? The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award goes to a performer seemingly born for the silver screen.
Harriet Andersson’s more than 100 screen performances have marked her as an icon in Sweden’s film industry. Her direct and natural style of acting has won her the love of both audiences and critics alike. She landed her first role in 1949, but her big breakthrough came in 1953 with Ingmar Bergman’s Summer with Monika.

Over the years, Ms. Andersson has portrayed strong, confident and often sensual characters. She is an award-winning actress best known for her work in such films as Through a Glass Darkly (1961), Fanny and Alexander (1982), and Dogville (2003). In 1964 and 1972/1973 Ms. Andersson received the Chaplin Award, and in 1973 she was awarded the Swedish Film Industry’s Guldbagge.

The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award is presented annually to honor and acknowledge a longstanding career and an outstanding achievement in cinema. The prestigious award, in the shape of a 16 lb Bronze Horse (the heaviest film award in the world), is a paraphrase on the Swedish Dala horse, designed by designer Fredrik Swärd. The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award has previously been presented to actors and filmmakers like Lauren Bacall, David Lynch, Oliver Stone, Paul Schrader and Susan Sarandon.
