Successful 11th Festival de Cine Alemán in Buenos Aires
The 11th Festival de Cine Alemán was held at the Village Recoleta Cinema in Buenos Aires from 22-28 September, 2011. An extensive program of 10 feature films, two documentaries, a silent film and the Next Generation Short Tiger 2011 showcase was shown.
The festival opened on 22 September with Philipp Stölzl's film GOETHE! The main program also featured ALMANYA (ALMANYA - WILLKOMMEN IN DEUTSCHLAND) by Yasemin Samdereli, THREE (DREI) by Tom Tykwer, COLOR OF THE OCEAN (DIE FARBE DES OZEANS) by Maggie Peren, THE DAY I WAS NOT BORN (DAS LIED IN MIR) by Florian Cossen, the documentary 9 LIVES (9 LEBEN) by Maria Speth, ROMEOS by Sabine Bernardi, COLOURS IN THE DARK (SATTE FARBEN VOR SCHWARZ) by Sophie Heldman, THE POLL DIARIES (POLL) by Chris Kraus and IF NOT US, WHO (WER WENN NICHT WIR) by Andres Veiel.
Moreoever, there was a great response to the children's and family screenings of Johannes Schmid's WINTERTOCHTER and the short film program of NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER 2011, supported by Kodak. A particular highlight of the festival were the two special screenings of PINA by Wim Wenders ahead of the Argentinian cinema release.
The silent film THE WONDERFUL LIE OF NINA PETROWNA (DIE WUNDERBARE LÜGE DER NINA PETROWNA) by Hanns Schwarz was presented with live music to a capacity cinema as the festival's closing film in cooperation with Transit Film and the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation.
The success of this year's Festival of German Films was not only clear from the fact that 17 screenings were completely sold out. The festival also reached the highest average admission figure for all of the cinemas in Buenos Aires in the week of 22-28 September.
A meeting organised by German Films with representatives of the Argentinian film industry at the German Embassy provided information about current activities in the German film world and funding opportunities for the foreign releases of German films (Distribution Support) .
The event's partners were the German Embassy in Buenos Aires, the Goethe Institut in Buenos Aires, Kodak, the Murnau Foundation, Transit Film, Multi Logistics, Revista Llegás and the German Club in Buenos Aires. The screening of COLOURS IN THE DARK (SATTE FARBEN VOR SCHWARZ) was presented in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy in Buenos Aires and Swiss Films.
