But sometimes it is necessary to agree to pay the full price, like the corn grain which must die to bear fruit… It is what this film shows, film at the same time dramatic and full with hope, inspired from real facts. Film selected at : Philadelphia (US), Granada (Spain), London Portobello (youths section), Brussels (Belgium, awarded with "Special Mention of the Jury"), Golden Gate festival San Francisco, Paris (award as Best Actor), Strasbourg, SkyFest USA (Prize of Excellence), invited at the New York IFF July 2010. "Teenagers" wins at the California Film Awards
The "California Film Awards", at San Diego, is considered as the Californian Oscar Ceremony, most for independent films. There are lots of awards: silver, gold, diamond, and the "Best of", for shorts, features, screenplays, etc. The most coveted is of course "the Best Feature Award". It was a great surprise for our film "Teenagers" (2011, 150') to be granted with this prestigious award. It was unexpected for a French film to get this award seen the competition with a lot of great quality US films (and from the whole world).
At the Ceremony, the director Paul Verhoeven said his appreciation for the open mind of American people, in opposition with a very offensive e-mail received from the Direction of Cannes that had big problems with friendship between boys...
He pointed out the aims of the film: to show that there is an alternative to violence, to delinquency, to suicide, to terrorism, to homophobia, and even to "christianophobia".
It's a pity that so a great and positive film doesn't find a distributor...

les festivals omettent parfois de reporter certains changements de date.

Cher Monsieur Chatelin, Voici un an que j'ai découvert filmfestivals, à Cannes, et depuis lors je m'en sers tous les mois pour proposer mes films dans différents festivals ; auparavant, je ne savais pas trop où m'adresser pour trouver la liste des festivals : au CNC, qui jadis communiquait au moins la liste des festivals français, on m'a froidement dit de taper "festival" dans Google, où les résultats étaient plus qu'incertains et peu commodes à exploiter, surtout sans ADSL, inexistant dans ma région (Ardèche). J'ai donc été ravi de connaître filmfestivals. Il y a cependant quelques bémols, mais dont vous n'êtes pas responsable. Par exemple, une deadline sur trois (voire plus) est différente dans filmfestivals et sur le site du festival concerné, et souvent on arrive trop tard, ainsi ; par exemple, un festival présenté comme ayant sa deadline le 1 juillet l'avait en fait en mai ! D'autres festivals ont encore une interface pour leur festival de 2007, et toute soumission est impossible ; des festivals sont même supprimés cette année (Ohne Kohle Festival) ; d'autres n'acceptent pas de soumissions et choisissent eux-mêmes dans d'autres festivals. N'y aurait-il pas moyen, avant de renseigner une deadline, de la vérifier ? Et, au lieu de renseigner la deadline finale (bien plus coûteuse), pourquoi ne pas se servir de l'early deadline ? En allant voir sur le site, on découvre quand même les dealines suivantes. Il est également regrettable que tant de festivals n'acceptent que des films en NTSC alors qu'ils ont pourtant accès à des appareils bi-standard. Enfin, constituer un dossier pour un festival, avec ses exigences nombreuses et variées, est un gros travail ; les frais d'inscription (jusqu'à 150$) et les frais d'envoi sont loin d'être négligeables. Aussi, ne pourriez-vous pas demander aux festivals d'avoir au moins la courtoisie élémentaire de prévenir de la non-sélection ? A Cannes, les 4000 auteurs des courts métrages ont bien été avisés de la non-sélection, mais les 1400 auteurs des longs métrages ne sont jamais informés... Mais grâce à filmfestivals, mon film "Teenagers" a été sélectionné au festival de Philadelphie (USA), qui acceptait les films en PAL... Une version court métrage a été sélectionnée au Corona Fastnet Festival (Irlande). Bien à vous. Paul Verhoeven
