Meiwenti Global Short Film Contest - ShanghaiMeiwenti Productions was formed by a group of people from all trades who came together to try to create a new niche in the developing Shanghai film industry. Put simply, we are trying to make film more accessible to those with an interest in getting involved. This includes people with experience and those without. In this age of affordable digital video cameras and editing software, the once exclusive art of film has become available to the "common man". So, we believe that to become filmmakers requires people to just dive into film, just like the pioneers of film, who were not experts in the field but ventured into the movies and forged the foundations of the trade. Film, like all other art forms, is an organic form of expression that changes through time, and so, we are willing to take on the responsibility and hard work required to create a new niche in film: Film made by and for the people! Our goal is to become a key player in the revival of Shanghai's film industry. And, with this in mind we hold our Shanghai Short Film Contest twice a year. With these contests we hope to slowly build up interest in film, give creative people an outlet and give people with an interest in film the technical and artistic know how, the resources and the contacts that they need to succeed. In order to ensure a certain level of quality in these contests, we occasionaly run a series of workshops on the weekends prior to the launch of our contest. This workshop consists of a series of lectures given by experts in the field on the many different aspects of filmmaking. These hands-on lectures include such topics as direction, production, acting, sound, lighting, editing, make-up, camera, script writing, costumes and set dressing.
