About the Director:

Oliver Kyr works as an author, director and writer since 1993.
He devotes himself to worlds that evolve in the heads of their heroes and his stories are set on stages far from common reality.

2011, his debut feature film „THE BIG BLACK“ celebrates its premiere in the competition section of the International Filmfestival in Corinth and wins the GOLDEN PEGASOS for BEST DIRECTOR. The independent mystery-thriller gathers an internationally renowned cast.
„SYMPATHY FOR DEATH“ (2010) presents famous German pop-singer Annett Louisan as the Daughter of Death, the sort film was screened at the International Short Filmfestival in Oberhausen, a.o.
„BUILDER OF WORLDS“ with Ralph Herforth was screened at 20 festivals internationally and was nominated for five awards.

Oliver Kyr studied at the university of media in Stuttgart, his graduation film „Pro Animale“ accompanied the work of a European society for Animal Rights.
His further studies included a degree in personality psychology (graduation thesis: „The myth of heroes in modern film“), he completed several trainings in „creative writing“, „film production“ and „directing actors“. Also he lectured at his former university and at media academy Ludwigsburg.
For his work in the corporate and advertising business (Daimler, Maybach, Bosch, a.o.) he was awarded twice with the Corporate Media Award.

His novel „AUDREY AND DEATH“ was published by NOEL in 2011. The story about death falling in love has also been published as an audiobook (SCHALLER ENTERTAINMENT).
In September 2011, together with PR-agency „independent concepts“, Kyr founded the film festival miniBLOCKBUSTER which will take place in February 2012 for the second time.

Kyr lives in Berlin and Nova Scotia (Canada).

Film synopsis:
Our forefathers warned us not to leave the burden of a guilt behind when we die. Because before your guilt-ridden soul is redeemed to heaven you would enter a queer, dark world. Welcome to the nightmare of purgatory. Welcome to the „Big Black“. 20-year-old Jack hunts the nightmare of his past and crosses paths with mysterious Eve. The beautiful girl who is either his Guardian Angel or his Final Doom. Time runs out as Jack tries to escape the demons of the waste lands in order to find redemption. Intense pictures and gripping music form a poetic base for a surreal plot and bizarre characters: An independent film with a renowned European cast.
