About the Director:

A former dancer, singer, and actor, Mollye began producing and directing when she recognized her desire to be more actively involved in the work she was a part of. She is co-founder of Broken Robot Films and is currently an MFA Candidate in Film at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she was awarded the Bernie Brillstein award for Excellence in Producing. Since beginning her graduate studies in 2007, Mollye has produced 10 short films and written and directed 3, many of which are quickly garnering international recognition at films festivals and screening worldwide. The NYU Grad Faculty as their submission to the Kodak Film School Competition nominated her most recent film, Slim and Lena. At its film festival premiere, Slim and Lena was nominated for Best Short, Best in Show and Best Male Performance. Mollye strives; no matter what medium or role she takes, to strengthen the voice of women in unique, innovative and thought provoking ways.

Film synopsis:
“Slim and Lena” is a modern film noir set in the grit and glamour of the neo-burlesque scene. The story begins, narrated by Slim, when he returns to NYC to settle a beef with Big Daddy, the proprietor of a hip burlesque lounge on the Lower East Side. When Slim discovers that his long lost true love, sweet Lena, has become a burlesque dancer; the typical roles of a noir are turned on their head. Packed with love, sex, and redemption, “Slim and Lena” is the story of how Lena finds her voice and becomes the heroine and narrator of her own story.
