About the Director:

Amartya Bhattacharyya, a person who believes literature and art to be his media of communication, is not only an independent film director, but also a poet, writer, editor, actor, lyricist, recitation artist and a photographer.

All his works are dark, intense and serious with an element of abstraction and surrealism integrated at its very core. He believes that his creation starts from where reality ends. His works are always experimental and unconventional. The objective is to reach to people and make them think in a way that they have never thought before. Monitory benefits have never been the priority.

He started acting on stage from the age of 6, and since then he has acted and directed a number of plays. Writing started during his college days, and in a span of just three years, he has published two books ('21-Ekush' and 'Shatarupa'). Film making started with a small team, and now his films are getting critical appreciations in regional, national and international forums. Amartya believes that someone who caters to the demand of the public is a businessman, and someone who creates demand is an artist. He has no interest in the former. As an artist, Amartya's philosophy can be best expressed in his own words ... "I believe in the nudity of thought, and crudity of expression".

Cinetopia Filmfestival

Dear Amartya, My name is Anna Sivertsson. I’d like to invite you to submit the film Shiuli - in search of my godess to Cinetopia festival! Cinetopia is a participatory festival, with a completely new local/global concept. We will screen films at independent , locations all over the world at the same time during one week in September 2014. Cinemas, cultural institutions, libraries and private homes anywhere in the world will become hosts for the festival during one week in september. The hosts choose films from www.cinetopia.cc, sell tickets and organize the screenings. The income from tickets sold is automatically split between the host and the filmmaker. We are filmmakers ourselves with roots in the independent film industry, and our goal is to create a more open, collaborating and transparent festival and film distribution system. No competitions and no gatekeepers. Just collaboration and sharing. This is the second year the festival is arranged. Last year it was called Nordic Creative Commons film festival, and 60 different events took part throughout Europe, with 260 screenings. We would love to have your film as part of the festival. Please have a look at www.cintetopia.cc and submit the film to the festival. You are of course welcome to submit more then one film, if you have any more. We are looking forward to hear from you, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions. Best Regards, Anna Anna Sivertsson www.cinetopia.cc
