CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Verzio 13 welcomes documentary films in two categories:

International and Hungarian Panorama – feature-length & short documentary films

International Student Panorama – DEBUT and DIPLOMA documentary films

 

In the last years Verzio attracted over 70,000 viewers. Beside the screenings, round table sessions, workshops and exhibitions we organize this year as well the Festival Crossroads section, which each year hosts a renowned human rights film festival. DocLab will organized, Student Jury, master classes and free educational screenings for students! Apart the screenings in Budapest and Pécs we plan to bring our programs to Győr and Szeged as well, to build a platform for human rights issues and documentary films!

International Panorama

The selected films address a wide range of issues affecting international affairs today: political oppression; poverty; civil conflicts; war zones and crisis spots; terrorism; free media; civil rights; minorities; nationalism and racism; equal opportunities; women's rights, trafficking; domestic violence; child abuse; migration and many other pressing human rights issues.

Hungarian Panorama

A selection of best recent thought-provoking fresh Hungarian documentaries on social justice and human rights are presented each year.

Student Film Competition

A competitive program of debut and student works. International Jury awards the best film.

DocLab in cooperation with CEU Media Lab

Workshop for talents led by internationally acknowledged film professionals. Details on the application are coming soon!

AWARDS

Student Jury Award

Verzio involves university students in discussing and evaluating human rights films in the festival program. The Jury is selected on a competitive basis from a pool of candidates with commitment to human rights and academic excellence.

Audience Award

Verzio gives Audience Award to the film which gets the highest rating (on a 1-10 scale).

Student Competition Award

International Jury awards the best film from the program for debut and student works.

Festival presentation

Verzio International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival is the only human rights documentary film festival in Hungary, organized yearly since 2004. Verzio aims to promote open society, democratic values, rule-of-law, freedom of expression, political and cultural pluralism as well as to expose abuse and human rights violations throughout the world by presenting quality, creative documentaries.

For the last 12 years Verzio grew dynamically, has screened more than 600 documentaries attracting altogether over 70,000 visitors. The program includes creative, exceptional documentary films which undertake important issues such as poverty, civil wars, war crimes, terrorism, crisis zones, political oppression, freedom of press, minorities, nationalism, xenophobia, racism, discrimination, migration, integration, equal rights, women’s rights, feminism, gender roles, sexual diversity, socialization of children and young people, drug abuse, corruption, domestic violence, people living in the margins of society, exclusion of the disabled and the sick or stereotypes.
