The NOMAD ProjectTHE NOMADPROJECT The NOMAD Project is anexhibition of short films directed and/or produced by independent filmmakersutilizing innovative and explorative ways of filmmaking. The aim of the exhibition is to sharewith the contemporary art audience unique ways in which filmmakers are adaptingto the state of the global economy and/or shifts in technology. Selected films will engage viewers viatheir originality and teach us all something new about the art of filmmakingand the various methods of production. Films can be shot on whateverformat thinkable; filmmakers are encouraged to be innovative andexperimental. If someone hasfigured out a way to make a powerful film on a photocopier, we want to seeit. Submitted films can benarrative or documentary, and should relate to Access & PARADOX’sunofficial theme “Nostalgia for Nature”. GUIDELINES For a film to be considered forThe NOMAD Project, filmmaker(s) must:
a. Incorporate the use of new technology and/or exhibit anability to creatively use existing or outdated media. b. Complete production with a minimal exchange of cash, specifically, less than 50% of overall budget;filmmakers are encouraged to exchange or barter production resources, as wellas cast/crew. c. Feature in the film some aspect of nature and/or theenvironment, literal or otherwise (beyond simply shooting outdoors).
*NOTE: It is forbidden to paycast/crew during production. Allindividuals participating should do so because of their interest in creatingart through cinema and their support for the respective project. SUBMISSIONS Projects will be accepted July1, 2010, through August 31, 2010. Filmmakers whose projects are accepted will be notified in September. Selected films willbe screened the evening of Friday, October 22, 2010, at Access & PARADOX inParis, France. About NOMADFilms NOMAD Films was createdin an effort to expose innovative and experimental forms of filmmaking, takinginto account the financial limitations within the independent industry as wellas continuously evolving filmmaking technology. The goal of the exhibition(s) is to create additional distributionoutlets within the arts. Distribution models for low-budget independent films are not alwayssubstantial; NOMAD Films brings to light a selection of the many projects thathave had little exposure otherwise. NOMAD Films was foundedby Ari Allansson and Sarah Schutzki. Ari, who is Icelandic but who has spent the past four years in Paris, isa filmmaker and the Founding Director of Air d’Islande, an annual eventdedicated to promoting Icelandic culture in Paris [ari@nomadfilms.net]. Sarah, an American currently residingin New York, spent the past few years living in Paris and working on variousdocumentary film, festival and media projects. In addition to her work at NOMAD Films, Sarah is also abusiness development consultant for La Blogotheque [sarah@nomadfilms.net] andis working on several independent projects.
