Since 1994 SAFILM attracts film lovers, and our audiences include press, filmmakers, industry leaders and die-hard fans. The San Antonio Film Festival sets up an amazing, creative innovative environment for just a few days every year where opportunities for one-on-one networking abound, connections are forged and filmmakers have a slew of unique opportunities to share ideas and advance their careers. As an accessible and inclusive platform for cinema artists, the San Antonio Film Festival also brings together scores of new and original films from across the country and around the world to delight, elevate and edify cinema lovers as well.
As a platform for filmmakers to express the full diversity of their cinematic voices, SAFILM provides aspiring and veteran filmmakers the opportunity to present their work in a competitive, energizing environment.
Every year, we also highlight independent films and filmmakers from around the world that helps generate an even more inviting atmosphere for cultural exchange and continued creativity. The deadline for submissions to the highly anticipated 23rd Annual San Antonio Film Festival (SAFILM) is set for May 26.
Already one of the largest festivals in South Texas, the five-day event garners extensive media attention and rave reviews. Industry and community leaders champion the festival for its diverse and exciting program.
SAFILM has a strong reputation for uncovering cinematic treasures every year with an amazing lineup of 100 percent DIY narrative, animation, documentary and experimental shorts and even features -- with a keen eye for the idiosyncratic, the unique, and the untold.
The slate of projects presented consistently pleases local audiences, visiting filmmakers, and cinema aficionados alike, and the festival has a growing base of loyal fans. With Jury and Audience Awards across several categories, as well as Best Performance, Best San Antonio Filmmaker, Best High School, and Best College Filmmaker, there are numerous recognition opps available at SAFILM.
The Festival nurtures, fosters, and develops Indie filmmakers of all ages and offers an array of opportunities to showcase films to diverse audiences, including film enthusiasts, local and national media, professional film critics, and radio and television stations.
Filmmakers and fans from across the country attend SAFILM, and filmmakers and enthusiasts alike find the experience intimate and inviting, and at the same time, the energy level can only be described as an uplifting, inspirational electric buzz.

“SAFILM was a memorable experience for me as a filmmaker. As a Californian, it was humbling to be a visiting filmmaker and win the Audience Award from such a supportive and movie-loving crowd! The festival honors great films from all over the world. I was proud to be one of them and make great friendships while I was there,” she said.

SAFILM MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
San Antonio Film Festival is an accessible and inclusive platform for cinema artists, brings cinematic culture to a diverse audience and showcases films from around the world while educating and encouraging emerging filmmakers of all ages.

All invited filmmakers receive festival passes with access to special workshops. Some filmmakers may be offered complimentary lodging and transportation. All attendees can enjoy the vibrant community in San Antonio, the cultural hub of South Texas just an hour south of Austin.
Area highlights include the highly acclaimed Riverwalk, a tree-lined canal that borders countless restaurants, bars, music clubs and art galleries. The city is home to world-renowned visual artists, and several museums with amazing contemporary art exhibits as well as private collections that can only be seen in San Antonio this season.
