Movies that Matter Festival
The Movies that Matter Festival is a film festival on human rights and justice in The Hague, the International City of Peace and Justice. Annually, the festival presents 70 documentaries and fictions by inspired film makers as well as various side-programmes, talkshows, debates, exhibitions. The festivals presents six awards with a total amount of money price of € 16,000.
The Movies that Matter Festival has two main sections. A Matter of ACT , a film, network and competition programme is Amnesty International's main programme: it consists of ten recent, captivating documentaries about the life and work of human rights defenders and their brave fight against injustice and oppression. Camera Justitia, the other main programme of the festival, sheds light on the many angles of the human rights and justice theme, using films and debates on transitional justice, careful administration of national and international justice, the rule of law and the fight against impunity.

Movies that Matter Foundation
is an initiative of Amnesty International Netherlands. The foundation opens people’s eyes for human rights and social justice. It uses film to promote the human rights dialogue, influence the public opinion and encourage people to stand up for human rights.
Besides the festival Movies that Matter organises various other human rights film events and activities including:
- educational programmes at schools and film theatres
- International support and promotion of human rights film screenings
- a human rights film programme within the annual International Documentary Festival Amsterdam / IDFA
- Movies that Matter Tour: monthly human rights films programme in +/-15 Dutch theatres.
