About
caribBEING’s flagship event the Flatbush Film festival, provides a needed platform for showcasing classic and contemporary Caribbean cinema while building community around Caribbean cinema, art and culture in NYC. The festival was initially conceived by Shelley V. Worrell as an undergraduate Caribbean Studies student at Brooklyn College due to the fact that Caribbean cinema, art and culture had long been underrepresented, even in New York City which has one of the largest Caribbean populations in the world.
Initially, a small singular event materialized in 2010, through the generous support and resources of student groups at Brooklyn College and the surrounding Flatbush community. The Flatbush Film Festival has since become a highly anticipated annual film series featuring curated, award-winning programming that garners press in media outlets throughout the world.
