Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Abertoir

Well, the riot that is the Abertoir Horror Festival has now finished - and what fun it was. In all honesty this has been the most stressful year for us to organise although this kind of made us all stronger as we were prepared, and knew how to react, if anything during the festival went wrong.

Overall it ran smoothly - the first day went without a hitch although we had a bit of a problem on Thursday when 2 of our Mystery Grindhouse Film event guests, Nico and Joe, couldn't make it to Aberystwyth as the gale froce winds belw their car into a ditch. Thankfully we had a plan B - show Troll 2 - a tremendously bad film which the audience loved. Each day was fun as both us and the audience enjoyed it. All 4 of us kept the momentum going by never flagging or lowering the tone and tempo of the fest. Although none of us entered into the mosh pit during The Damned & Zombina gig....

We had no sleep ofcourse since we we're living of coffee and 3 hours kip but somehow it helped us - although yesterday when we were having a post-Abertoir meal we began to wilt dramatically.... I'm slowly starting to recover but it's a weird feeling now that everything has finished  :)

The films were well recieved by our audience as they were all rated very highly (a solid 4 stars for Vampires and Siren). Best feature went to Rare Exports which is a total gem of a film. The shorts were also well recieved The Elemental won our Melies D'Or short film competition and Manual Práctico del Amigo Imaginario won the Abertoir Short film competition.

It is incredibally sad however that the festival is now over but I'm glad that we can all look back and be proud of what we put together :)
