With his career in ruins, and with his life at a crossroads, Joe Pasacale (Shakespearian actor David Oyelowo) is forced to come to the unhappy conclusion that all of his problems stem from black people - that is, his very own community. I felt like Liza Minnelli, when she used to sing that saga entitled "Ring them bells" which underlined how after roaming the world you will find love on your doorstep,or with a nearby neighbour.Although hailing from Yorkshire, and for some years contributing to the Bradford Film Festival, I had actually never ever attended the Leeds International Film Festival.(At the National Museum of Photography Film and Television, that was not encouraged- though the current director of the Leeds Festival,a c...

After the little liked and little seen Canadian drama, Mr Rice’s Secret, in 2000, David Bowie makes a stylish return to movies as brilliant Serb-born scientist Nikola Tesla – the only character based on a real historical figure in Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Prestige. Tesla’s life and work are every bit as magical as the film’s subject matter, reports Andrew L. Urban, and Bowie gives him a profound mystique. The first time you see him on screen, there is a moment of hesitation; yo...

Thursday, November 9-----In the satirical film sensation BORAT currently in theaters, America's obsession with fame and financial success is skewered to great effect. That is also the theme of the US/UK co-production TRUST ME, which has its World Premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival on Friday. The film, written and directed by actor-turned-director Andrew Kazamia, is a smart and funny look at the entertainment industry, politics and America's mania for celebrity.

I would have to say the Ngozi Onwurah directed, "Shoot The Messenger" is perhaps one of my favorite films of the festival thus far. Set in London during contemporary times, the BBC Film produced feature touches on loads of hot button issues. Its universal themes about family, relationship, scholarship and spirituality will resonates across all cultures and groups. The film debuted last night...

I've been so busy that I haven't had any.One thing that interests me about your career is that you're very grounded in the theatre. How important do you think this background has been to your work?I think that the way that I work is based on the theatre education that I've had, certainly with Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which was a play originally. I took a bit from rock 'n' roll, a bit from theatre; we dev...
