Charity to benefit from Cardiff Film Festival Opening night

Cardiff Film Festival officially opens at Cineworld, Cardiff on November 8th at 7.30pm with Art School Confidential. Directed by Terry Zwigoff (Bad Santa) and featuring a star studded cast with Max Minghella, Sophie Myles, John Malkovich, Jim Broadbent, Steve Buscemi and Angelica Huston, the film is shown as part of a black tie gala evening with all proceeds supporting the work of the Community Foundation in sustaining community causes throughout Wales.

The night’s attractions, in addition to the opening film, include an auction; champagne reception and an opportunity to mingle with some of Wales’ finest film talents.

The star item in the auction will be an artist’s proof of one of Sir Kyffin Williams’ last works - a landscape at Gelli Iago, Nant Mor, on Anglesey. Other items include lunch for four at the prestigious Coutts private bank in London, and a special collection of the handprints of the Wales team that beat South Africa for the first time in history at the first international match ever held at the Millennium Stadium.

Sarah Howells, Cardiff Film Festival Director, said, “This opening film is a fantastic film to kick start the festival and the gala evening promises to be a superb evening. We hope the glitz and glamour of the opening night will bring with it much needed funds for the good work of our chosen charity, The Community Foundation, so better snap up your tickets now!”

Kim Brook said, “It’s a great honour to be the Cardiff Film Festival’s nominated charity. We hope to raise as much awareness and money as possible in our quest to build an endowment fund for Wales that will be able to support the people in greatest need, year after year.”

The Cardiff Film Festival runs from 8-18th November at Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre in Canton and Cineworld in Cardiff’s city centre. More information on the Festival is available from the website: www.cardifffilmfestival.co.uk
