The main event on day five of the fest Monday, was a staged conversation with actor Ben Affleck, 37, held at the Grammy Museum a short walk away from the Regal Cineplex 14 main festival venue. This was introduced by long term Newsweek film critic David Ansen who is the artistic director of the festival this year. The moderator --i.e., leading question asker -- was a Mr. Sean Smith, who prudently allowed Mr. Affleck to do most of the talking. Clips from some of his films were shown including the ...
At a film festival devoted to non-fiction works from around the world, the presence of a true documentary master is cause for celebration. Such was the atmosphere on Wednesday evening at the AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival, which honored documentary pioneer Frederick Wiseman with its annual Guggenheim Symposium (the Festival's equivalent of a career achievement award).
Wiseman, who has been making controversial and thought-provoking films since the 1960s, is...
FIFTH LOS ANGELES JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL"We don't select -- we Choose!" by Alex DeleonThe fifth edition of the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival opened a six day run on Saturday, May 8, at the classy Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills with a very off-beat film from Israel, "A Matter of Size", about Hebrew speaking Sumo wrestlers (!) and an hour long Gala stars-of-yesteryear studded reception in the lobby preceding the screening. The film was exceptional and the array of celebrities at the recep...

When the Roxbury International Film Festival (RIFF) began in 1999,
our goal was to celebrate films that were written, produced and
directed by filmmakers of color. In addition, we hoped to provide a
much-needed venue for audiences to view some of these inspiring films
and interact with the filmmakers who created them. More than a decade
later, we continue to build upon the rich legacy we have established
for the international film and local arts communities.
RIFF
is the largest regional film festival of its kind. With each passing
year, we have grown more powerful in our impact on film and the arts in
New England and attracting filmmakers and audiences from far and wide.
