Frustrated by her lazy, though adorable Cuban boyfriend, she meets a sophisticated ex-patriot Cuban-American who dazzles her with a glamorous future. TO DREAM OF CUBA  (Juan Eduardo Garcia, USA, Cuba, 70 mins.)

You can take a Cuban out of Cuba, but you can't take Cuba out of a Cuban. This exploration of the art and passion of Cuban music is jam packed with great rhythms and songs that take us to the farthest corners of the island. We follow the lead of the lyrics (finely translated with subtitles) of Israel Sardiñas , formerly of the great Cuban band Van Van. Unable to return to Cuba, he sings about his homeland in every tune, especially of his love of the Cuban women.

Director Juan Eduardo Garcia, also a percussionist, is expected to attend.

VIOLIN MASTERS, Two Gentlemen of Cremona

350 years ago two violin makers from the same town, from the same block, made the most sought after violins ever achieved. Everyone has heard of Antonio Stradivari, but few have heard of Guarneri del Gesu. Why? Through interviews and in-depth looks at the instruments themselves, John Forsen's documentary offers a unique view into how history makes our legends, and how each instrument maker's deeply personal relationship with his creation influences the relationship between a player and his instrument. Special guest in person!

Precedes the Outdoor Show....

Sat. Sept. 18 8pm Deerfield Under the Stars

TRIBUTE TO PERCY ADLON In Person

MAHLER ON THE COUCH

(Percy & Felix Adlon, Germany, Austria, 98 mins.)

We celebrate the career of Percy Adlon whose BAGDAD CAFE, SALMONBERRIES (with k.d. Lang) and Rosalie Goes Shopping highlight film style he calls "Poetic Realism." Father-son, writing-directing duo, Felix and Percy Adlon, create a new film that depicts the relationship between Gustav Mahler and his wife, Alma, as recalled by Gustav in an entertaining therapy session with Sigmund Freud.

Barbara Romaner up everything to devote herself to her husband. Alma's affair with Walter Gropius is a manifestation of her ever-growing frustration with the life she has chosen.
