In over 140 films from 49 countries, we will show the entire spectrum of cinema: from intelligent blockbusters with glamorous stars like Sir Ben Kingsley and Charlotte Gainsbourg to the latest cinematic discoveries from our guest country Spain and innovative avant-garde films. This year's ZFF opens with the drama THE SWIMMERS by Sally El Hosaini.

This year's programme is as star-studded as it is diverse. From the Gala Premieres, to Sounds, New World View or #MyReligion, the Zurich Film Festival excites, moves and encourages discussions. Each of the three competitions - Focus, Feature, Documentary - is geared towards discovering new talent by only showing first, second and third directorial works and they don't disappoint! The search for one's identity, the reflection on societal problems and standing up against grievances are the central themes addressed in the competition entries. The winners will receive a Golden Eye on October 1 during the Award Night at Zurich Opera House.

This year, the Zurich Film Festival again promotes domestic cinema by screening 18 Swiss productions across all sections, including the World premiere of A FORGOTTEN MAN by Laurent Nègre from Geneva, in which he tells the dubious role of the Swiss ambassador in Hitler's Reich and the World premiere of DIE GOLDENEN JAHRE by Barbara Kulcsar.

Adding to the exceptional programme is the glam factor of this year's festival. Stars such as Sir Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Eddie Redmayne, Til SchweigerLiam Neeson, Rebel Wilson and Machine Gun Kelly are expected at the ZFF, where they will present their most recent works in person. The first four, as well as sought-after director Luca Guadagnino, will hold public ZFF Masters. Check out the programme, or have a look at our festival agenda to know when and where.
