Winter Film Awards

Winter Film Awards is an all-volunteer women and minority-run 501(c)3 organization founded in 2011 by NYC filmmakers and arts enthusiasts. It was built with the dream of making indie film more accessible to the public and providing driven, talented artists the opportunity to break through competitive barriers to establish meaningful careers in film.

Our Mission is to recognize excellence and diversity in cinema, with a special emphasis on showcasing women and minority filmmakers and to promote learning and artistic expression for people at all stages of their artistic careers.  Our focus is on nurturing emerging filmmakers from all genres from around the world, and helping them gain recognition and contacts to break into this difficult industry.

Our annual festival offers something for everyone, highlighting the dynamic range of talent and storytelling capabilities the independent filmmaking community has to offer.  We pride ourselves on our diverse collection of Festival selections, allowing our audience to enjoy films they normally wouldn’t think to seek out.

In addition to our annual Independent Film Festival, we host 4-6 events each year in New York City, including panel discussions, networking parties, a 48-Hour Film Challenge, a Comedy Competition, archival cartoon screenings and other fun film-related events.

Like many of the great film Festivals across the country and the world, WFA seeks to bring our audience compelling and unique content that inspires the viewers and honors the filmmakers. There are hundreds of film festivals in New York City; what makes us different is our intense focus on the variety of our films and helping new filmmakers reach what may be their first real audience.

WFA is a minority- and women-owned registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We work with all local NYC film schools, colleges, arts high schools and many cultural societies.

Winter Film Awards Congratulates our 48-Hour Film Challenge Winners!

CONGRATULATIONS to OUR WINNERS
Winter Film Awards 48-Hour Film Challenge 2012
What Can YOU Do In Just 48 Hours?

WINTER FILM AWARDS, a new independent Film Festival in NYC, is pleased to congratulate our winners for our first annual 48-Hour Film Challenge!

Winter Film Awards challenged the local community to create a 5-7 minute film from start to finish in just a single weekend. The WFA 48-Hour Film Challenge got under way on Friday, November 30 at 8pm. Each team was provided with one of eight possible Film Genres, and all films were required to include the line "You are not a beautiful, unique snowflake. This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time." (Chuck Palahniuk) and a required prop - a big bright snowflake sugar cookie. Final films were due by 9pm on Sunday, December 2. Thirty teams registered for the challenge, but only 13 succeeded!

All winning entries will be screened at our 2nd Annual Winter Film Awards Festival on February 28 2013 – March 2 2013. To view our best entries, please visit us on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/winterfilmawards. For more information about the Winter Film Awards, please visit us at www.WinterFilmAwards.com .
