Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

It Happened in The Valley...Casablanca via Van Nuys

When The Valley Film Festival was first
founded, one of the main reasons was to correct cinema history. Sort of.
For instance, when you think of the classic film Casablanca, you think "Hollywood" when you should be thinking Burbank and Van Nuys...The Valley!

When Isla's plane takes off, leaving a
broken-hearted Rick behind on the airstrip in Casablanca, it wasn't from
the comforts of the Warner Bros. lot like the rest of the film...in Burbank...but what is now the Van Nuys Airport. The hangar featured in the film has been somewhat preserved and can be viewed from the parking lot of the Airtel Plaza Hotel

Last month we journeyed to NoHo/Universal City to visit Campo de
Cahuenga -- the birthplace of California. This month, in honor of the
Academy Awards, we're traveling deep into Casablanca via Van Nuys.

We'll meet at the Clipper Club Lounge, inside the hotel, at 4pm (when it
opens), take a photograph by the iconic hangar, and celebrate another
contribution The Valley has made to movie history!
