Paranormal Scriptwriting Activity

I was in Edinburgh Fri-Sat for a flying visit (without flying actually as I travelled by train) and on the Friday evening I decided to take a few hours off from my laptop and go and see a film at a lovely soulless multiplex (this being cineworld).

Since I also work in the horror sector I had the choice between Paranormal Activity 2 and Saw 3D. I really wanted to see both as I was curious as to how Saw had used 3D technology and also how Paranormal Activity was starting to turn itself in to Scream type-franchise and cash-in on a dreadful sequel. I tossed a coin and Paranormal Acitivty 2 won. Thankfully I knew that Saw would be coming to our Arts Centre in a few months time so I wouldn't totally miss out.

After sitting through 25(?) minutes of adverts, I was all ready to hate it and went in with the lowest expectations known to man - then something happened - I found myself enjoying it and realising, during this process, how clever this film was as it had not been written as rubbish cash in 'sequel' and in fact had a lot of depth ot it. I won't give too much away but if you go in expecting to see if Micah had really died and what had happened to his girlfriend, or in other words a 'lets see what happens next scenario' that doesn't happen as it takes a 360 turn and does something completely different - and far better than you could imagine. Impressive stuff.  

I still can't wait for Saw 3D as I do hope that they have effectively used the 3D technology properly as opposed to just for fun - a full report will follow soon!  :0
