Sundance panel discussions and events on music in film

Sundance Film Festival announced details for the panel discussions and events celebrating and exploring the importance of music in filmmaking, as well as the artists performing at the Music Café, Music on Main, and at other Festival events in Park City. The music-focused events are part of the Festival’s continuing commitment to bringing musicians and filmmakers together in a creative environment where they can inspire each other and share their passion for creativity. The 2007 Sundance Film Festival runs January 18-28, in Park City, at Sundance Resort, in Salt Lake City, and in Ogden, Utah. FILM MUSIC
During the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, the Sundance Institute’s Film Music Program and BMI will be hosting special events that highlight the relationship between film and music.
• SUNDANCE CELEBRATES MUSIC AND FILM–Join composers and recording artists who are making an impact on the world of independent film, performers include Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (Once), Scratch Massive (Broken English), Craig Werden (The Ten), and M. Ward (The Go-Getter). Sunday, January 21; 8:30 p.m. at Sundance House at The Kimball Art Center. Open to all Festival credential holders.
• FILM2MUSIC–Screens the highlights of ninety-four international filmmakers take at visually scoring a music track from Kubilay Under’s instrumental album Cinematic. Tuesday, January 23; 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at New Frontier on Main. Open to all Festival credential holders and the public as space permits.

• A ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: MUSIC AND FILM, THE CREATIVE PROCESS–Answers the question of what makes for an effective director/composer relationship. Panelists include composers Terence Blanchard, BT, George S. Clinton, Peter Golub, Adam Gorgoni, Adam Hollander, Dave Robbins, Anton Sanko, Ed Shearmur; and directors Justin Theroux (Dedication), Tom DiCillo (Delirious), Andrew Wagner (Starting Out in the Evening), and Mike Chaill (King of California). Wednesday, January 24; 11:00 a.m. at Sundance House at The Kimball Art Center. Open to all Festival credential holders and the public as space permits.
• MUSIC SHOWCASE –An intimate evening of inspired music, mingling and spirits. Cocktails and appetizers will be served while you enjoy performances by Terence Blanchard, Victor Krauss, Keb Mo, and Michael Penn. Wednesday, January 24; 6:00 p.m. at Sundance House at The Kimball Art Center. Open to all Festival credential holders as space permits.

MUSIC CAFÉ
Located in STAR BAR, 268 “upper” Main St. in Park City, Utah, from January 19 through 27, the Music Café showcases the exceptional talent of emerging and established artists. This is a place where independent filmmakers can meet and interact with film composers and songwriters to encourage collaboration between these two creative communities. The Music Café kicks off with an opening reception on Friday, January 19, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. With daytime programming by ASCAP, Music Café is open from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. January 20-27 to all Festival credential holders and features four to five musicians daily, each performing half-hour sets.
This year’s performers include: A Fine Frenzy, Sarah Bareilles, Michael Brook, Donovan, David Ford, Gran Bel Fisher, Emerson Hart, Greg Laswell, Eric Lewis, Jon McLaughlin, James Morrison, Alexi Murdoch, Dana Parish with Andrew Hollander, Michael Penn, Ron Sexsmith, Silversun Pickups, Jill Sobule & Julia Sweeney, Sparta, Annie Stela, The Album Leaf, The Bird and The Bee, Rosie Thomas and Simon Townshend. MUSIC ON MAIN
Music on Main is back! On Thursday, January 25th lower Main Street will be a buzz with music from some of today’s best upcoming artists. Starting at 6:00 p.m. and going until 9:30 p.m., Music on Main will feature music from WEST INDIAN GIRL, OF MONTREAL, SHINY TOY GUNS, and DJ J_LUVV, and is free to all festivalgoers.
LOCAL MUSIC AT SUNDANCE EVENTS
In addition to Film Music events, Music Café and Music on Main, many local musicians will get a chance to shine at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. January 19 through 27 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m the Festival Headquarters we will spotlight a local musician. While local DJ’s will be moving the crowds at all official Sundance Film Festival parties, receptions, the launch of New Frontier and the Opening Night Gala.

What’s New for the 2007 Sundance Film Festival
New Frontier represents the evolution of the Frontier section exploring the experimental world of filmmaking. New Frontier is an expanded program that includes work from artists pushing the boundaries of art by using the moving image to create new cinematic modes of storytelling. The program includes films screening throughout the Festival, as well as media installations, media-based performances, and panel discussions at New Frontier on Main—a new venue located across from the Egyptian Theatre in the Main St. Mall formerly known as the Film Center. Artists whose work will be featured in the program are Paul Chan (multi-media installation), Shu Lea Cheang (interactive mobile media), Martha Colburn (multi-media installation), R. Luke Dubois (multi-media installation), Eric Dyer (multi-media installation), James Graham (multi-media installation), Ricardo Rivera and Pier Nicola D’Amico (multi-media installation), Lincoln Schatz (interactive video art), and Travis Wilkerson (multi-media performance).
New Frontier will be introduced to the public with a grand opening ceremony on the afternoon of Thursday, January 18th, before the Festival’s Opening Night film.
