Queer Lounge Panel: Online & Original

Sunday, January 21-- This afternoon the Queer Lounge hosted a panel called Online & Original- Filmed Content on the Web. The panal discussed how the explosion of online social networking platforms such as YouTube and MySpace has created new opportunities for LGBT filmmakers to find wide audiences. Although self-distribution and producing creative content for the web can help bring LGBT content to the masses, the major concern is, can you make any money? With the Internet becoming saturated with content, the question should be asked...what kind of new revenue streams can be created? This is a question that is on everyone's mind. And to be fair-- this panel unfortunately discussed the obvious. It served more as a place for the panelist to announce their truly exciting new projects...

The new platforms that were showcased at the panel included: OurChart.com, an online social space for lesbians and friends, PlanetOut.com's Short Movie Awards, discovering new LGBT film talent, WOW.tv, creating content and income streams for filmmakers, and Glee.com for professional and social networking.
