Glastonbury festival suffers major loss of Robert Richards 65In London, a beacon of light in the entertainment world was extinguished this week with the sudden passing of Robert Richards, 65, on January 12. Richards had worked passionately at Glastonbury Festival for over thirty years, having most recently held the position of Head of Partnerships, where he secured large commercial partners and sponsors. A lifelong cinephile, Richards had worked with Director Julien Temple as an editor of the film “Scissor Sisters: Return to Oz” (2004) and as producer of “Glastonbury,” (2006) and “Glastopia” (2012). He also served as the Chair of the non-profit Somerset Film.
In a statement, Glastonbury Festival founder, Michael Eavis paid a glowing tribute to his “remarkable” friends’ work accomplishments and stated, “ Alongside this work, Robert helped me personally with projects in Pilton Village, particularly the big social housing project and the village shop. He was also Chairman of the Glastonbury Town Fund Board which raised £24 million for the town in 2021. I am personally very sad to lose this remarkable man who I will find difficult to replace.” Richards was also a trustee of Glastonbury Abbey.
While his accomplishments are impressive, what set him apart was his passion for excellence and his enormous personal drive to support the arts. Robert had a unique understated and ever humorous approach to connect with people, always eagerly sharing his extensive knowledge and experience. Richards uncanny way of bringing together others over business and life was a special gift. He leaves behind his equally passionate wife, Ann-Marie, and a world full of friends and admirers.
