RIFF 09, 2023, 5: The Line-up

The venues

The grand Opening Ceremony of Rajasthan International Film Festival - RIFF 2023 was to be held in Jaipur on 1st February at INOX, Crystal Palm, C-Scheme, Jaipur. This would be followed by film screenings, open forums, workshops and talk shows for the next four days, which be held at Screen 3 - INOX, Crystal Palm, C - Scheme, from 2 to 5 February 2023. The grand RIFF Closing Ceremony and RIFF Award Night was to be held on 5 February at the Open-Air Theatre - Jawahar Kala Kendra Jaipur.

The films

Short films, documentary films, feature films and music video albums were to be screened during the festival. A total of 46 films would be screened at the INOX, Crystal Palm from February 1 to February 5. All these shows were to be free for the audience. Visitors will be given entry on a first come, first served basis. Tickets for these movies and talk shows can also be booked for free on Paytm Insider.

The languages

* Films would be screened in more than 10 languages.

Festival director Somendra Harsh announced that documentaries, short films, regional films of Rajasthani language, Hindi, English, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Sanskrit, Telugu, Muduga, Maithili, etc. languages would be shown. Films made in French, Italian and other foreign languages will also be screened at the film festival.

The message

Every Film will have a hidden social message.

Festival director Somendra Harsh said that all the films that have been selected have a message related to social concerns. After the film, a unit member will give detailed information about the film and the message hidden in the film will also be discussed.

The theme

RIFF 2023 has a theme, Sports in Cinema

Sports shown through cinema has the great ability to influence the young generation and inculcate leadership qualities in them. The number of films in the sports genre is still very low, compared to general films, in academic forums or film festivals. Rajasthan International Film Festival has taken this initiative to bring together cinema and sports for its 9th edition. In this connection it would showcase the film Paan Singh Tomar.

The talks

Talk shows, open forums and masterclasses will be organised daily

Festival Director Somendra Harsh said that talk shows on important topics will be organised in this film festival. In these series of talk shows, subject experts will constitute the panel. On February 2, Cinema - Regional Languages & Rajasthani Language - Recognition, Future and Recognition will be organised, with the support of Department of Art and Culture, Government of Rajasthan, on February 3, Rise of Tourism, Investment and Culture through Cinema, with the support of Rajasthan Tourism and on 4th February, "Impact of OTT on Indian Film Industry" will be organised with support of Cinemasthan.

The personalities

Many film personalities will attend the festival

Festival director Somendra Harsh said that many celebrities of cinema world will be present during the film festival. These include film director, editor and writer N. Chandra, actor Parikshat Sahni (who will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution in Indian Cinema) and music director Mithoon, who will be honoured with the Hasrat Jaipuri Award for Contribution in film music. Apart from these, many celebrities, like film directors Anant Mahadevan and Karan Razdan, actors Ashish Sharma and Anup Soni, actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, film writer Sutapa Sikdar, superstar Singer Season 2 winner, Mohammad Faiz, will also be present.

The closing

Will end with colorful program on 5th February.

The closing ceremony and RIFF award night will be held at Open-Air Theatre, Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. A colourful cultural program will also be organised in the closing ceremony, in which many dance groups and musical personalities will give their performances.

Siraj Syed is a film-critic since 1970 and a Former President of the Freelance Film Journalists' Combine of India.

He is the India Correspondent of FilmFestivals.com and a member of FIPRESCI, the international Federation of Film Critics, Munich, Germany

Siraj Syed has contributed over 1,015 articles on cinema, international film festivals, conventions, exhibitions, etc., most recently, at IFFI (Goa), MIFF (Mumbai), MFF/MAMI (Mumbai) and CommunicAsia (Singapore). He often edits film festival daily bulletins.

He is also an actor and a dubbing artiste. Further, he has been teaching media, acting and dubbing at over 30 institutes in India and Singapore, since 1984.
