15 February extended date for Chalachitram filmfest

Entries to the Guwahati Film Festival and Heritage Short film Competition will now be accepted till February15. Earlier, the last date was February 10. According to the Festival Director, Utpal Datta, the festival now has a common name, the Chalachitram National Film Festival for Short, Documentary and Animation films. The festival will be held on March 1, 2 and 3, at Guwahati, Assam, North-East India.

The following prizes are on offer:

*Ist Prize Rs. 1,00,000 (Entries from all over India, including those from Non Resident Indians, are eligible).

Theme: “Our Heritage, Our Pride.

Duration: Non Feature, max-25 minutes (with credit titles).

Produced after 1st Jan 2018 (please include Censor Certificate or self-attested declaration by the producer / director).

Sub-Themes:

1. Land and people  

2. Tourism  

3. Arts  

4. Music and Musicians  

5. Festivals 

6. Monuments and Heritage sites

7. Social reformers and pioneers  

8. Sports 

9. Social Awareness

10. Indian Family system

11. Environment 

12. Women

*Special Prize for the participants from North East: Rs. 50,000

*Film Critic Circle of India’s Citation for the Best Film

*Jury Special Award for Short, Documentary and Animation film.

Feature films can also be entered, but only in the non-competitive section. They, too, have to be on the theme of the festival, and must be produced after 1st Jan 2018. A maximum length of 120 minutes, including end credits, will be eligible.

Entries may be in any format, films shot on including cell-phones, but only on-line screener or DVD will be accepted for the competition.

The film can either be silent or with dialogues. Films in languages other than English must have English subtitles.

Syed Siraj

Siraj Syed is a film-critic since 1970 and a Former President of the Freelance Film Journalists' Combine of India.

He is the India Correspondent of FilmFestivals.com and a member of FIPRESCI, the international Federation of Film Critics, Munich, Germany

Siraj Syed has contributed over 1,015 articles on cinema, international film festivals, conventions, exhibitions, etc., most recently, at IFFI (Goa), MIFF (Mumbai), MFF/MAMI (Mumbai) and CommunicAsia (Singapore). He often edits film festival daily bulletins.

He is also an actor and a dubbing artiste. Further, he has been teaching media, acting and dubbing at over 30 institutes in India and Singapore, since 1984.
