11th Bengaluru International Film Festival award winners
Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, an anthology of Tamil stories, directed by Vasanth Sai, was chosen the Best Film in the Asian category of the 11th BIFFes, held in Bengaluru, during February 21-28. Sivaranjiniyum is based on women-centric short stories by
Ashokmitran, Adhavan and Jeymohan.
Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon (Hindi), produced and directed by Anamika Haksar, bagged two awards--FIPRESCI-
International Critics Jury Award, and Best Indian Film Award, in the Chitrabharathi Indian Cinema Competition category. The film explores the lives of marginalised people in the walled city of Old Delhi, and their dreams.
Arup Manna’s film Aamrityu (The Quest/Assamese), about a militant who tries to come back and settle in his village, was selected for the Special Jury Award.
Nathicharami by Manjunatha Somakeshava Reddy (Mansore), about female sexuality, has been chosen for the Netpac (Network for Promotion of Asian and Asia Pacific Cinema) International Jury Prize for Kannada cinema.
Mookajjiya Kanasagalu, by P. Sheshadri, was been adjudged the first best film in the Kannada Cinema Competition category. This film is based on a Shivaram Karanth story.
SavithriBai Phule by Vishal Raj, a biopic of the reformer and educationist, and Ramana Savari, directed by K Shivarudraiah, based on a story by K Sadashiva, were chosen as the second and third best films in this section.
