COVID-19 update: spectacular traffic increase in online streaming

Watching TV shows or movies on Netflix uses about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video. Downloading and streaming consume a similar amount of data.

Netflix has been reported to account for 25% of internet traffic in France.  

Netflix, Facebook, YouTube and Amazon said they would temporarily lower bit rates in Europe, following the call from EU industry official Thierry Breton who had asked leading platforms to reduce streaming quality as more people are forced to stay at home. Disney plus has accepted to postpone the launch in france....

Over the last days, we've seen traffic increase dramatically in some countries. We had a closer look at the numbers the number before and after lockdowns or other actions governments took to contain the spread.
