Box Office analysis for the week of September 28th

Tenet continues to lead the box office in North America and globally.   Warner Bros. reported $3.4M in weekend ticket sales across the Domestic market, now adding up to $41.2M after 4 weeks in theatres. Tenet's worldwide cume of $283.2M is even more impressive, showing the relative strength of the recovery in international markets. The New Mutants from 20th Century Studios earned $1.1M in its 5th week, Unhinged from Solstice Studios earned $1M in its 7th week and Break the Silence from Trafalgar Releasing brought in $1M with 550 locations playing this behind-the-scenes documentary of the 2019 global tour by the famous Korean boy band BTS.

Check out our Popcorn Previews Boxoffice Buzz, which looks at the changes Disney announced last week to the release schedule for its Marvel superhero blockbuster Black Widow

Our Industry News Summary, Gower Street analysis and Hollywood Report all highlight the crisis in exhibition in the wake of another week when studios announced postponements for upcoming major releases. Many argue - persuasively - that studios need to support exhibitors by delivering a steady flow of new films that will entice movie goers back to cinemas. If your neighbor's house is on fire, and you have a hose and water, it's probably best to help put out that fire since you both live in the same neighborhood and benefit from its overall well-being.  We also look at a survey tracking consumer comfort levels with engaging in out-of-home activities. Over the past several weeks, trend lines appear to show a renewed confidence in the public venturing out to enjoy entertainment activities such as dining, shopping, going to the gym and going to the movies.

We conclude with our regular film data tables. The Weekly Film Calendar provides detail on film releases through December 10th. We report last week's many studio release changes, Industry Screenings, MPAA film ratings announcements, and highlight the most important new trailers released last week.

Screendollars helps exhibitors stay informed about the schedule of Hollywood film releases, important industry news and how to maximize earnings from in-theater advertising. We encourage exhibitors to contact us to learn more about Screendollars in-theater advertising and marketing programs.
