Red Bull Mediahouse announces 'Heroes By Nature'

In 2013, cinemas across Europe are going to be fueled with an adrenaline rush: A monthly action sports movie event, featuring compelling stories and heart-stopping stunts that have never been seen on a big screen.

Todays “Big Friday” press conference at San Sebastian Film Festival just might have heralded the beginning of a new era of action sports movie exhibition:

Not only did the Festival and Red Bull Mediahouse announce further details concerning the new section that will be established at next year’s San Sebastian Film Festival and focus exclusively on action sports, outdoor and adventure movies.

The Red Bull Mediahouse also announced the concept of “Heroes by Nature”: A series of monthly action sports movie events, taking place in selected cinemas across Europe, rolling out in 2013. Working with networks of different partners, each “Heroes by Nature” event is going to capture the audience by focusing on one breathtaking action sport, like surfing, mountain biking, snowboarding, climbing or other disciplines, and explore the depth of these sports through an exhilarating combination of short and full lengths films (often exhibited as World- or European premieres, like the ones presented at this year’s Big Friday). Of course, the cast and crew of these films cannot be missed at such an event, so they will be present on stage in one chosen host city and be broadcasted live to all other participating cinemas for Q&A.

In short, “Heroes by Nature” unites the best in action sports movies, showcases the latest, never before seen feature films, and connects the audience with the talent behind these films.

To secure the best and latest in action sports movies, “Heroes by Nature” is going to work closely with the new section at San Sebastian Film Festival. It also encourages filmmakers around the world to participate in this event and, in turn, enables them to present their story in this prestigious environment.

Sophokles Tasioulis, Head of Cinema & International Theatrical Sales at Red Bull Media House, says: “Heroes by Nature satisfies a growing demand for high quality action sports films on the big screen. Cinemas will turn into event locations and will give audiences an entirely different, immersive experience of the extreme sport world. We will bring new, young audiences to the movies and will provide filmmakers a prominent platform to showcase their films to a broader audience. ”

As a preview to the excitement that can be expected from such an event, tonight’s “Big Friday Double Feature”, which presents the World premiere of “The Art of Flight 3D” and the European Premiere of “Storm Surfers 3D”, will be screened in front of over 2100 people at San Sebastian’s Velodromo. The official tickets for this heroic operation were sold out within 5 hours!

Tonight’s Doors at the Velodromo will open at 18.30h. If you would like to cover this event editorially, we would be pleased to welcome you by 18.15h.
