Silent Ones by Ricky Rijneke selected for Skopje

The Dutch feature film Silent Ones has been selected for the Skopje Film Festival. The festival, held from 23 to 30 April in Macedonia, has selected 26 films including The Missing Picture by Rithy Panh and Heli by Amat Escalante as well as work by Ulrich Seidl and Jim Jarmusch.

Silent Ones is the feature debut by Ricky Rijneke and has already been screened at many international festivals including Moscow, Sarajevo, Sao Paulo, Montreal, Los Angeles and Berlin.
The film has won several prizes including that for best debut, Best cinematography, Best actor and recently the main prize for best film at the Berlin Independent Film Festival.
Previously, Silent Ones was nominated for the Tiger Award
, the competition program and flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam where the film was received very positively by the professional press.

The International Cinephile Society (ICS): “A powerful, very self-assured debut, Silent Ones confirms that the director is one to watch.” The film was compared by  the reviewer to the work of Bruno Dumont.

Curator Film PHI Centre Montreal: “Attention talent! One of the best films I saw at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Outstanding film debut.”

The Dutch press was also very flattering. The Volkskrant talked of a beautiful discovery and called the film a self-assured and dislocating directing debut.

Silent Ones tells the story of a young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) whose little brother Isti has disappeared and then leaves on board a freighter to fulfil a promise to him. A surrealistic trip balances on the brink of life and death.
Silent Ones was produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden) and was made with support from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondrian Fund. International sales are being handled by the French sales agent Wide Management. The distributor Contact Film is bringing the film out at the end of November this year in the Netherlands.
