The Final Day
Guest of FEST 2010 Sergey Lavrentiev, a film critic and the presenter of the Russian film “Ward #6” based on a famous Chekhov novel and directed by Karen Georgievici Sahnazarov, on a very last day of festival discussed with the press, program of this year’s FEST The International Film Festival in Belgrade . “The program is great, as always thanks to Mr. Vuckovic who is one of the most film educated people I have met, and is doing a great job over the years. This year, FEST has presented two fantastic Russian films, “Buben.Baraban” directed by Alexei Mizgirev, and “Ward #6”, by Karen Georgievici Sahnazarov. Moreover, the wonderfully chosen opening features “Morphia” in contrast to its limited distribution in Russia. There are a few Indian films that represent the Asian cinematography which is usually represented by Japanese, South Korean and Chinese films. India is also a part of Asia. Bollywood is very popular and its cinematography is the most prolific cinematography in the world, with over 800 films published every year. This films are full of unusual plots and twists, involve a lot of dancing and the photographic aspect of the films is extraordinary. Some films are even better than Hollywood films. “
Also this year’s FEST program called Horizons presented another Croatian film “I Believe in Angels,” directed by Niksa Svilicic, set on an idyllical Vis Island on a Croatian coast. The author here tried to present unconventional story, about love with the happy end, and about simple life, which contrasts today of Croatian cinematography that is now created by violent, blood and movies about regime and civil war. A kind of films, once very popular in 60s and 70s cinematography of ex Yugoslavia!
The story is situated on an island in the middle of the Adriatic Sea and it can be put in any century or political time. "Time stands still in the film" tells this old fashioned feature of a calm and beautiful Mediterranean life on an island. Because out there, every day can be an interesting event that takes place, and that is, of course if we decide to let it happen!
