If you are talking about Iranian film, the first thing on your mind are films about Iranian divorce, gender issue and very bad position of women in the countries like Iran. But film Ephemeral Weddings/Noces ephémères by Reza Serkanian is not about the position of women in this culture. It is about women, customs and mentality all together. I say women because the film discusses love and women in the focus via Iranian customs. Colorful representation of Iranian film director Reza Serkanian gives certain insight into Iranian family and goes right down to a very core of Iranian society that is not modern but yet still very traditional. The film has a wonderful documentaristic element but is the grand feature film style. From one side, it shows really hard reality of traditional living in Iranian family and its complex structure that needs to cope to Iranian believe in God, and from the other side a rightful image of hope and nostalgia colored with superstition and repressed sexuality. Storytelling is very good and has mysterious context that employes issues of so called temporary marriage allowed by Islamic law in order to avoid isolation and single living that does not suits to any of the traditional Islamic code, no matter of the sex.
