Noces ephémères

If you are talking about Iranian film, the first thing on your mind are films about Iranian divorce, gender issue and very bad position of women in the countries like Iran. But film Ephemeral Weddings/Noces ephémères by Reza Serkanian is not about the position of women in this culture. It is about women, customs and mentality all together. I say women because the film discusses love and women in the focus via Iranian customs. Colorful representation of Iranian film director Reza Serkanian gives certain insight into Iranian family and goes right down to a very core of Iranian society that is not modern but yet still very traditional. The film has a wonderful documentaristic element but is the grand feature film style. From one side, it shows really hard reality of traditional living in Iranian family and its complex structure that needs to cope to Iranian believe in God, and from the other side a rightful image of hope and nostalgia colored with superstition and repressed sexuality. Storytelling is very good and has mysterious context that employes issues of so called temporary marriage allowed by Islamic law in order to avoid isolation and single living that does not suits to any of the traditional Islamic code, no matter of the sex. Reza Serkanian is Iranian film director graduated at the Academy of Modern Art in Amsterdam, he made 3 short feature films, two documentaries and one feature film.

Time to Play

Kino Otok Isola evokes past and the history of film is important. On the second day of the most unusual by its variety, film festival in this area, situated on the coast of Slovenia, very near and influenced by Italia and Italian cinema, Kino Otok Izola also presented a classic surrealistic comedy by Jacques Tati from 1967 Playtime, and by some film critics, I am quoting: the most daring films of the post war era. With his precise framing and shot composition and thoughtful use of space, Tati artfully evokes the confusion brought on the modernity. Film Play Time Tati had built a wonderful set specially for the film in order to present Tati trademark use of subtle, visual comedy, that goes together with creative sound effects and dialogue frequently reduced to a background noise. In his films it becomes obvious that Tati is coming from the theatre and that he is very important for film history development. The film's satire of modern life, cutting-edge while first conceptualized in 1959. It is the old style movie that includes simultaneous comic sight gags and it is Tati trademark in history of film.
