The Maverick Movie Awards' goal is to help talented moviemakers achieve the recognition they deserve by awarding movies with unique style, exceptional craft, and the power to communicate. Celebrating narratives, documentaries, experimental films, and the vast diversity of moving pictures expression, the MMA has recognized everything from big-budget pictures to low-budget indies, global issue documentaries, screwball comedies, animated flicks, horror movies, music videos, microcinema, and everything in-between. 

 

The MMA was founded by professional moviemakers who have all experienced the wonderful yet sometimes maddening international film festival circuit. 2013's reboot to Year 5 reaffirms the cooperative’s ten-year mission to provide a loving alternative to politics and self-interest. As the original awards cooperative of moviemakers honoring moviemakers, the MMA will not jeopardize your premiere status for any other competition or festival submission.

 

42 Maverick Awards and up to 14 nominees in 21 categories gives every moviemaker and all their collaborators the opportunity to shine. Each movie's intent – on its own terms – is considered first and then the quality of its parts. All facets of form, function, style, and craft are given a level playing-field where, in addition to standard award categories like Best Picture and Best Director, oft overlooked disciplines including stunts, special effects makeup, and original music are never snubbed.

The MMA offers numerous prizes, including a distribution deal through MTI Home Video for one deserving feature nominee. Both the feature and short Best Picture honorees win a complete HD camera and sound gear package with equipment rental fees waived by HB Group, Inc. This one-week rental package, valued at up to $10,000 USD, includes lenses and location sound gear.

 

The Maverick Movie Awards' founders and judges are all entertainment industry insiders and outsiders not mere academics, critics, fans, or dabblers. In fact, everyone involved in the MMA’s judging process has been a collaborator on a theatrically-released movie, a television or video release, or a top-ten film fest official selection.
