Today it was announced that Mariah Carey will be honored at the Capri, Hollywood Film Festival on Monday, December 28 with the “Capri Award for Supporting Actress of the Year 2009” for her outstanding performance in the critically acclaimed feature film Precious. The festival runs from December 28, 2009, through January 2, 2010. Capri is a stunning island off the coast of Naples, located only 20 miles from the mainland, it's a popular destination for day trips.
Mariah Carey says that she is honored to receive an award that represents a milestone in her artistic career and Capri is “one of the most beautiful and enchanting places on earth, an island that is extremely relevant and memorable for me particularly as I’ve recorded two of my albums here.” "After receiving rave reviews from critics at Sundance, Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals, “Precious” will have its Italian premiere at Certosa di San Giacomo.
This special award goes to an extraordinary and extremely gifted artist who has sold more than 200 million records worldwide making her the most successful female artist of all time. She has also achieved more number one records than any other solo artist in the history of the Billboard 100, including Elvis. In the Lee Daniels-helmed film “Precious,” Mariah Carey underwent a dramatic transformation to play the role of overworked social worker ‘Ms. Weiss’ and lends credibility to her “pitch-perfect performance.” The result is an unforgettable and compelling performance receiving critical accolades" said Pascal Vicedomini who is currently completing the programming of the 14th edition of the Capri, Hollywood – International Film Festival. Ms. Carey will also be honored at The 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will present Mariah Carey with the Breakthrough Performance Award for her performance in Precious on Tuesday, January 5.
