The Global Film Village: 2010 Producers Guild of America Awards
Sunday marked another milestone in this year’s awards season as The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced their winners in television and motion picture productions at their 21st Annual PGA Awards ceremony held at the Hollywood Palladium.

PGA Producer of the Year Award in Live Entertainment and Competition CBS’s “The Amazing Race” Fox’s “American Idol” Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” Bravo TV’s “Project Runway” Bravo TV’s “Top Chef” The 2010 Vanguard Award recognizes achievements in new media and technology was given to award-winning science-fiction and fantasy storyteller Joss Whedon, producer, writer, director, and creator for such hit television programs as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Firefly,” and “Dollhouse.” He has written several feature film scripts including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Toy Story, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E. and is author of the cultish Dark Horse comic book series “Fray.” Whedon also created and produced an Internet sensation with the musical superhero spoof “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog,” which stars Neil Patrick Harris.
The 2010 David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures was presented to John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios and Principal Creative Advisor, Walt Disney Imagineering . The PGA’s Selznick Award is given in recognition of an outstanding body of work in motion pictures. The honor has a rich and distinguished history, with past recipients including such legendary producers as Stanley Kramer, Saul Zaentz, Clint Eastwood, Billy Wilder, Robert Evans, Brian Grazer, Jerry Bruckheimer, Roger Corman, Laura Ziskin and last year, the team of Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.
The Stanley Kramer Award was established in 2002 to honor a motion picture, television program, studio, network, producer, executive or other individual entity whose work illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion. The 2010 Stanley Kramer Award was presented to PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL ‘PUSH’ BY SAPPHIRE. The film is produced by Lee Daniels, Sarah Siegel-Magness, and Gary Magness. Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Lisa Cortés, and Tom Heller are Executive Producers; Simone Sheffield serves as Co-Executive Producer; Mark G. Mathis is Co-Producer; and Asger Hussain serves as Associate Producer. The PGA’s 2010 Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television was presented to Mark Burnett. Last year, the PGA Norman Lear Award was presented to David Chase. Previous recipients include Dick Wolf, Jerry Bruckheimer, John Wells, Lorne Michaels, Bud Yorkin, Carsey-Werner-Mandabach, David L. Wolper, Don Hewitt, Garry K. Marshall, Aaron Spelling, Steven Bochco, David E. Kelley, and, of course, Norman Lear.
The PGA Milestone Award was presented to Michael Lynton, Chairman & CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The Milestone Award is the Guild’s highest honor in recognition of an individual (or team) who has made an historic contribution to the entertainment industry. The award is presented at the annual PGA Awards ceremony. Last year, the PGA’s Milestone Award was given to the Imagine Entertainment producing team of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. Previous recipients of the award include such luminaries as Walt Disney, Darryl F. Zanuck, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Sherry Lansing, Clint Eastwood, Bob Daly and Terry Semel, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Ron Meyer, and Alan Horn.
