Cary Mulligan receives Best Actress Award for her performance in "Maestro" from Meryl Streep

Last night at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Meryl Streep said, "I am here for my friend Cary Mulligan. If you think of the dimension of all her characters, the emotion is always full and felt, and tucked away and hidden in reserve, her work in Maestro, it’s like the smaller tremors we get here in California..that scene in Maestro on Thanksgiving, we hardly see there faces, it’s hard to see her, but it shakes you with an eruption, all the work she’s done leading up to that moment in that film, the years of her support of Leonard, the humiliation, all the action takes place under her skin, she is bound until the earthquake, a scene where her rage turns most inward, in a critical self assessment, who’s fooling who…she age through the film invisibly to 56, she contracts and succumbs to cancer and dies harshly the way people do but the choices to die with her eyes open and turned away from Leonard Bernstein, it was as if she didn’t want him to hyjack her again, right now she wants to fly off alone, beautiful work, craft married to genius.  Why is it the wordless moments in movies".

Carey said "I didn’t expect Meryl to come…she said I’ll throw on a frock and drive down.  you know you are my hero. I love Palm Springs, I had my bachelorette party here, and now Meryl.
given me time to escape from my three children..Started working in 2013, I felt I needed to go all in, it’s scarey to be an artist, I decided to really try, and I read about her wanting to be an actor…she never gave herself a chance, half in half out, and i knew she had the same reservation I had, and I knew I needed to get over that.  In playing Felicia I did go all in, and I am so grateful to her and her children, and because of this experience I can call myself an artist.  I want to thank Bradley Cooper for giving me this role of a lifetime".
