Meet the Lumière Ambassadors

The Ambassadors

 

This edition of the Lumière Festival is pleased to welcome the Lumière Ambassadors, a team of filmmakers and cinema critics, who will lend their expertise to present many films of the program lineup throughout the festival!
 

Regis Wargnier 

Among other classics, he has directed, Indochine, a historical epic whose success reached beyond French borders. The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1993 and received five Césars, including a Best Actress award for Catherine Deneuve. In 2005, he created Man to Man, a probing look at tolerance and the acceptance of others. A specialist in cinema adaptations of novels, he then attacked Fred Vargas' thriller, Have Mercy on Us All, which starred Pham Linh Dan, the actress he had revealed in Indochine. Regis Wargnier will introduce several screenings, including the unforgettableOut of Africa and a restored print of the Oscar-winning film by Luis Puenzo, The Official Story.

Delphine Gleize 

A singular filmmaker whose style and delicacy are recognizable among thousands, Delphine Gleize directed Carnages, an ensemble film with Chiara Mastroianni and Lio, and The Moon Child, a beautiful ode to life starring Vincent Lindon and Emmanuelle Devos. She will introduce twelve screenings, including Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull and WALL-E, the Pixar Studio gem.

Pascal Thomas 

Pascal Thomas has enjoyed both public and critical success in directing classic comedies starring Catherine Frot and André Dussollier such as Crime is Our Business and By the Pricking of my Thumbs. He has just directed Valentin, Valentin, released this year, where we find Géraldine Chaplin, who also honors us with her presence. He will present several films, notably including four Julien Duvivier films in restored prints.

Philippe Garnier 

Philippe Garnier is one of the leading writers of film criticism, notably known for his collaboration with the classic showCinéma, Cinémas. He writes for Rock & Folk, for Rolling Stone, and was the Los Angeles correspondent for the Libération. His book L’Oreille d’un sourd  has been hailed by critics as one of the best books on journalism. He will present seven films, including Law and Order by Edward L. Cahn, chosen by Martin Scorsese for his carte blanche.

Aurélien Ferenczi 

Journalist, writer and critic, Aurélien Ferenczi is the deputy editor of the magazine Télérama. He is one of the faces of the show Le Cercle, where he defends his film choices every week. He is the author of books on Tim Burton, Fritz Lang or Lars Von Trier. He will present twelvefilms, including an early Scorsese, Boxcar Bertha.
