The 39th edition of International Film festival of India, which is now recognized as a one of the TOP festival in the world is open to roll. Veteran actress Ms Rekha lighten the traditional lamp with the opening z. Est szug Chief Minister Digamber Kamath, Union Minister Mr. Ananad Sharma, I & B secretary, Ms Sushma Singh were amongst the guest of honor, While young actress Amrita Rao conducted the ceremony. Over the past four decades the festival has grown both in size and quality with new additions almost every year and gained recognition of national & international cinema lovers. This year the festival has several new features. Over 225 films from forty countries will be screened in several sections. The International competition section will have 15 films. These include My Mother’s Tears (Argentina/Germany) Rupantor (Bangaladesh) The Shaft (China), Kanchivaram & Mahasatta (India) the Song of Sparrow ( Iran) Pencil(Malaysia), Ploning (Philipines), Akasa Kusum (Srilank) etc. While main attraction will be the section “Cinema of the world” in which films made by Non resident Indians will be screened. In this segment Tandoori Love (Switzerland), Death Without Consent (USA) are the talk of the festival. The Festival will pay homage to film personalities G.P.Sippy, B.R.Chopra, Raghvaram, Jayashree Gadkar, Vijay Tendoolkar, & Nabendoo Ghosh who passed away over the past year with screening of their films. A special section “Framing Time” organized by Films Division will screen documentaries every day. This is for the first time in India in collaboration with mainstream festival.
