Korean Superstar In Person at Jacob Burns Film Center

Tuesday, April 10----One of Asia's biggest movIe stars, South Korean screen idol Joong-hoon Park, will attend a mini-retrospective of his career, starting tomorrow evening at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville (that's 30 minutes on Metro North, for Manhattan islanders). A household name in Asia, Park began his career in the 1980s in domestic dramas, but hit it big in comedy and action films as part of the South Korean film renaissance of the past decade.

Park will present his newest film RADIO STAR on Wednesday evening, in an evening hosted by Jacob Burns Film Center board member Jonathan Demme (Oscar winner for THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS).  In the film,  Park plays a has-been rocker with an attitude problem who can't seem to stay out of trouble. His faithful manager (played by Sung-kee Ahn) bails him out time and again, finally pushing him onto an unlikely path for a new kind of success - as a radio DJ in a small town. Following the film, Jonathan Demme will hold an on-stage conversation with both Park and co-star Ahn.

Nowhere To HideNowhere To HideThe series continues through Monday, April 17th, with such highlights asTHE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE (2002), a modern take on the 1960s Stanley Donen film CHARADE (which starred Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn), directed by Jonathan Demme, and featuring cameros by French screen legends Anna Karina, Agnes Varda and Charles Aznavour.; TWO GUYS (2004), about an enforcer who threatens a playboy with serious debts to his mob bosses; NOWHERE TO HIDE (1999), an action-packed thriller about a detective hunting down the head of a massive drug cartel in an andrenaline-filled manhunt; MY LOVE, MY BRIDE (1990), a romantic comedy of errors that earned Park the Best Actor award at the Asian-Pacific Film Festival; and RULES OF THE GAME (1994), a violent, hard-bitten tale of two small-town innocents who move to the big city, to encounter the mean streets of corruption, prostitution and crime.

The series is spnsored by the Korean Film Council. For information on the series, purchase tickets and get information on upcoming events, visit the Jacob Burns Film Center website: www.burnsfilmcenter.org
