A student named Watanuki wants a normal life. To get rid of what torments him, he is guided by a butterfly to a witch's shop which reads "I can fulfill any desire". However, every wish granted comes at a price. A beautiful super production based on a very popular manga by Clamp, full of fantasy and action, where the great Japanese aesthetic tradition is present.

Blade Runner

In 2019 Los Angeles, a police officer, Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, is tasked with hunting down four replicants who have arrived illegally on Earth to meet their creator. Revolutionary science fiction film and unquestionable cult film. “Time to Die!” says the dying replicant in the film's portentous final moments (a fabulous Rutger Hauer). 40 years after its European premiere at Fantasporto, this film by Ridley Scott is still an experience not to be missed.

A woman lives dependent on the videos she puts on the net and the amount of followers she gets. One day, she is asked to help finish an argument, which forces her to move to a remote place. A deep reflection on the invasion of privacy and modern times. A disturbing and fresh look, but full of originality, on a very current problem. First fiction feature by an experienced American director.

With his characteristic exaggeration and violence, this cult director makes us enter a struggle for power that involves Sicilian and Japanese mafiosi. Reiji is a cop who's been charged with misbehavior and is on a clandestine mission to destroy Japan's biggest drug dealer and his son. Always original and creative, but don't expect this prolific director of “Audition”, a bland film.

Far beyond industrialized Japanese animation, this film takes us to see a careful and beautiful animation but still in the manga spirit. Yaizael is sent to protect Earth. The proverbial struggle between Good and Evil in the era of defending our planet and its beauty.

The peaceful life of a Galician village is shaken by the arrival of a local daughter and her Swedish friend, both belonging to a heavy metal band. For Jacinto, a young man with a mental disability who believes in the priest of the land, they are the devil himself. This film won the Panorama Section Audience Award at the Sitges Festival and the Jury Prize at the Austin Festival.

Maximiliano returns to the land where he lived for his father's funeral and paperwork. There, the brothers and the body of the father, who is still where he died, await him. First feature film by this Argentinian director.

Director Alejandro Hidalgo visited Fantasporto in 2014 to present his first feature, “La Casa del Fin de los Tiempos”, the next multi-award winning film, at the world premiere.

Robots dominate the Earth but they don't hide the nostalgia for humans who no longer exist. And they do what they did – fight. Infernal machines, crabs and humanoids, in a fabulous science fiction animation, selected for the Annecy Festival and the Ottawa Festival.

High Society | Charles Walters, 101’ (USA) – 1956 – v. O. leg. port. br
In this musical comedy, a young woman of high society (Grace Kelly) hesitates between remarriage and her ex-husband, a jazz singer. Gene Kelly and the “Old Blue Eyes”, Frank Sinatra, share the favors of the “socialite” while the fantastic Louis Armstrong plays and sings. This is the last film of Hitchcock's favorite actress, who leaves the cinema this year to marry the prince of Monaco. With fabulous music by Cole Porter, this film was nominated for two Oscars.

Night at the Eagle Inn
Erik Bloomquist, 70’ (USA) – Horror – v. O. leg. english
Two twins, a boy and a girl, travel to the remote Eagle Inn, after a life with foster families, looking to find out what happened to their parents. Classic horror directed by Erik Bloomquist who at Fantasporto 2021 presented the very interesting “Ten Minutes to Midnight”. The director won an Emmy with the TV series “The Cobblestone Corridor”.

The plague
José Mojica Marins, 52’ (Brazil) – Horror – restored version – v. O. port.
Zé do Caixão (Mojica Marins) warns at the beginning of the film. One should not play with the unknown. Marina, Juvenal's wife, doesn't understand the nightmares of the man she loves, but she knows that it all started after taking pictures in the countryside, next to a witch's house. Disappeared for many years, this is the only unreleased film by the Brazilian horror master, now digitized and restored, who visited Fantas in 2000.
