The European Film Awards - Feature Film Selection (part 2)

 1v5r4.png

After the earlier announcement of 19 feature films that are part of the European Film Academy’s Film Selection 2023, 21 more titles have been added to the shortlist for the European Film Awards.

The Academy Selection represents every year the very best of European cinema and aims to promote the films. All work of the European Film Academy is based on our Diversity and Inclusion standards, ensuring that everyone in Europe is considered and has an equal chance to be selected. The fact that for the first time more than 40 % of all selected fiction films have been directed by women, is a sign that we’re making progress. This year's list of selected films illustrates, once again, the great variety in cinema throughout Europe.

Please remember that it is strictly prohibited to share your access to the films with any other person. The selected films are made available on the Academy VOD Platform for the awarding process only. Some of the films have not yet been released theatrically, as DVD/BluRay, online or otherwise. The rights-holders therefore expect that the films are viewed by the members for the purpose of voting for the nominations only and that any content made accessible through the platform is not shared by them with any third parties. The films must neither be copied nor distributed nor be shown to any persons other than the members of the European Film Academy. Any breach of this will make it more difficult for us to include films in the selection in the future.

Voting begins on 5 October

Voting deadline 18 October

The voting will end on Wednesday, 18 October at 23h59 CEST.

Nominations

The European Film Academy Board will add up to two nominations in each category. The Board’s nominations may also be chosen from films nominated in the categories European Documentary, European Animated Feature Film, and European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI.

The nominations will be announced on 7 November. Afterwards the members will vote for the winners who will be presented at the 36th European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin on Saturday, 9 December.

Excellence Awards

In 2023, the Excellence Awards in the categories European Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Make-Up & Hair, Original Score, Sound, and Visual Effects will be determined by an 8-member jury consisting of representatives of the different arts and crafts.

In 2023, like in previous years, there will be no nominations in these categories. Please note that the European Film Academy is working on changes in the awarding process of the Excellence Awards, to improve the engagement of members in the process and do more justice to the winners. Stay tuned in 2024 and 2025 for more news on this!
