A Documentary by Daniel Everitt
Opening this Thursday March 12th, at the Prince Charles Cinema, on Leicester Square, in London, is the World Premiere of ‘Our Planet, The People, My Blood’ (trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRWPYH1clQg&feature=youtu.be ) from first time director and maverick cinematographer: Daniel Everitt-Lock (https://everlockproductions.com/portfolio/our-planet-the-people-my-blood-2026 ). Daniel has been part of a campaign to declassify government blood records of nuclear test veterans. Previously held under the highest levels of security clearance, those records are now being released to veterans' families for the first time, with the full archive scheduled to be made publicly accessible through The National Archives later this year. Four over three year and traveling more than 150,000 kilometers, this amazing filmmaker, has been capturing over 50 firsthand testimonies from people who suffered these horrific nuclear experiments. This is truly a very emotional cinematographic ride into the darkness but, also, the resilience of the human soul. Praised to Daniel Everitt-Lock for his “tour de force” endeavor and for keeping wide awake the debate about nuclear horrors. We can’t wait for this film to be widely released worldwide and at a theater near you.
Q: What challenges did you face making this film?
Daniel: The biggest challenge was financing. Between public fund and various resources, we got nothing. This was so hard. But we realized there was a real audience for this film. The thing that inspired me was to watch, nine years ago, a short Dutch documentary about the atomic test reference which was eventually bought by Vice, and which got the most views ever. So, we did the same and went after our potential audience. Being a global film, the toughest thing was to get the budget to make it happen.
Q: What is the film about for you, any messages?
Daniel: Ultimately the film is about injustice. In some cases, it has been 70 or 80 years when these issues have been ignored. Millions of people have been put aside and have not been compensated for all of what they endured. And of course, we are not talking about nuclear wastes that cannot been cleaned and are just moved from one place to another. It’s a total nightmare for so many people and because it affects their genetics it’s forever that they will be affected.
Q: I understand there is a solid plan for this film?
Daniel: Well, I’m happy to announce our film is Premiering this Thursday at the Prince Charles Cinema in London! Then we will be in several theatres all over England. And then we will stream and broadcast our film.
Q: What is the takeaway with your film, what should people get from watching it?
Danie: Hopefully the same reaction I got from watching that doc nine year ago: passion! What blew me way back is when one of the interviewees were talking about the intensity of the nuclear blast. Even so their eyes were closed they could see an Xray of their hand hands trying to close their eyes! So, I hope people realizes the scope of this story and the impact it still has on people. I hope people realizes the degree of injustice passed on generations.
