El Cadaver Exquisito | Update

El Cadaver Exquisito | Update

by

After a series of private screenings for film/video/art groups,
scholars and individuals, based in the greater metropolitan area of
NYC, we are in the final stage of El Cadáver Exquisito.
The main purpose of those screenings was to test the cut and gather
both general and specific criticism for the movie in order to help us
polish the editing, and therefore, the narrative. The screenings have
also smoothed out our transition to the final audio mixing stage, where
we are now. At one of those screenings, we were lucky enough to have
with us our friends from MUBI/Garage, L.A. Alguera and Laura Hammer

Immediately
after what at that time was the latest screening, on December 14th at
The Apartment (a group based in Manhattan and run by our friend Nestor
Gonzalez), we flew to Los Angeles to meet our editor Elric Kane,
and address the latest inputs and feedback for the cut. We took what we
thought was most useful from the screenings and decided to re-cut the
piece. It was trimmed down by around three minutes, making our very
final cut, which we called: “I have a scar.” Fortunately we can
officially say that we have the final picture lock: almost 400 hours of
footage converted into a movie that is 1 hour and 40 minutes long.

After working with Elric we came back to NYC. Thankfully we didn’t
get stuck anywhere due to the massive snow storms that hit the east
coast during the holidays. We met online again with our sound designer Jay Wynne,
who is based in Atlanta, to discuss the final picture lock and address
the overall feedback of the movie. Jay was very receptive to the
feedback and very perceptive as well with his ideas and opinions of how
to tackle the sound design and the final audio mixing.

Our goal is to finish the movie for the end of March in order to be able to participate in the Guadalajara International Film Festival / Talent Campus-Docu Lab, where our director, Victor Ruano, was accepted in The Talent Campus
program for his work on El Cadáver Exquisito. El Cadáver Exquisito will
be screened for the participants during the Festival and Talent Campus.
Also, we are planning to document the experience and post it here. The
Gudalajara Film Festival Talent Campus will run from March 24th to the
28th.

This is where we are right now - one step away from completing this project.

Also, we would like to present a series of stills from our final cut.
